Purfling Channel Revisited The purfling is usually made of three thin strips of wood. The black strips, sometimes made of ebony, more often then not from dyed fruitwood, are glued onto the center strip, which is made of maple. These strips are layed into the channel, which is approximately 1.8 mm wide.
